Sauble Beach Business Posts Petition Regarding Saugeen Land Claim

Over 600 people have signed an online petition from the owner of the Crowd Inn in Sauble Beach regarding the Saugeen First Nation land claim.

Dave Dobson's beach-side restaurant is listed in the claim.

In the petition, he says he wants legal reform to how third parties with legal titles to their properties are handled when named in Native land claims.

Our property was purchased and is described by way of a Crown grant issued in 1896 and is registered through the Ontario Land Registry system. These are legal means for possession of property and we are in no way adversely possessing land which has not been legally obtained through the legal system of Canada and Ontario. Neither Canada or Ontario accept responsibility for the initial sale of our land which is now in contention. Throughout the Land Claim negotiations, each has indicated, if blame is to be appointed, that the other should be responsible.
"It's a matter of getting the word out there because I'm pretty sure Canadian's are not going to be happy if you read what I have on my petition of how I've been treated and think that would be an acceptable way for a country to treat one of their citizens," Dobson tells CKNX News.

The petition can be found here.
