Perth County OPP officers are investigating the theft of some firearms and cash in Mitchell.
Perth County officers were joined by the West Region Emergency Response Team members and a Canine Team in the Town of Mitchell searching for two break & enter suspects.
Just before 10am on Thursday, a passerby was driving by farm residence on Line 46 between Mitchell and Monkton when he noticed two thieves preparing to load an ATV into a U-Haul truck.

The suspects immediately left the scene in the U-Haul and headed into Mitchell.
Police were subsequently notified about the incident.
A short time later police located the abandoned GMC U-Haul at the Mitchell Arena parking lot on Wellington St.
Police secured the U-Haul and a search for the two male suspects got underway.
Officers also returned to the break and enter scene on Line 46 and discover the thieves had forced entry into a detached shed and stole three firearms and a quantity of cash.
The stolen firearms are described as follows:
- A Baikal, 20 gauge, double barreled shotgun, with a wooden stock

- A black .22 – 250 calibre rifle
The suspects are described as young males in their mid 20’s. Both were wearing blue jeans, one was wearing a red sweater and the other wearing a grey hoody.
