Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance Gets Patients More Involved In Care

The Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance is moving forward with a program that involves patients in the decision-making process regarding their care.

Anne Campbell is the Vice-President of Partnerships and Patient Experience for the Alliance.

She says the Patient and Family Experience Framework has evolved to the point that patients are represented on hospital committees, 14 unit action councils, and have a voice in some committee decisions.

Campbell adds there has been a culture shift away from being provider-driven, to being patient-centred. Patients who have had good or bad experiences at the hospital are being asked to join the councils and provide their input.

Campbell says the Alliance is now considering having patients sit on the interview team during the hiring of new staff.
