Huron Perth Catholic Learning Summits Held

The Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board hosted Catholic Learning Summits at two schools this week.

The summits, billed as leadership and technology conferences, were held for Grade 5 to 8 students at St. Michael Catholic Secondary School in Stratford on Monday and at St. Anne's Catholic Secondary School on Tuesday.

Technology Learning Co-ordinator Sean McDade says the theme of the summits was innovate, inspire and network.

McDade says it's important to be able to speak in the language students understand and that means using the technology they use. But he adds it's also important to incorporate that technology with other communication and problem-solving skills.

McDade says the board has spent a lot of money on Chromebooks and i-Pads so the students have access to the technology they need, but that's only one part of the total package that will really make the difference for their students.

Learning Co-ordinator Laurie Lynne Stapleton says teamwork is a major part of their focus where students work together and learn from each other and she adds the teachers are also learning from the students.
