Mitchell Dam To Receive $80,000 In Provincial Funding

The town of Mitchell is expecting a windfall of cash from the provincial government to help maintain the Mitchell dam.

The supervisor of water control structures for the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority, Rick Goldt, told West Perth council that they are expecting $80-thousand in funding to be announced in the next week as part of the province's Water Erosion Control Infrastructure program.

The funding will be used for some much-needed touch ups to the structure of the dam itself.

“Next year we're going to do some sort of project development work, [and] look at the recommendations we've had from some of our dam safety work and determine how we will plan those projects.” Goldt told CKNX News.

The Mitchell dam has been earmarked for over a million dollars in maintenance costs over the next twenty years and the council of West Perth is exploring a number of means for funding the project.
