Mitchell Secondary Upgrading Agricultural Course

Mitchell District Secondary School is planning to upgrade its Agricultural Specialist High Skills Major course by adding some practical experience.

Principal Emma Bannerman says they are looking for funding to renovate a shed on their property to allow animals for the students to take care of.

Along with the barn, MDSS is also looking at adding a year-round greenhouse.

“We want a greenhouse that can run year-round and for that we need a better facility than the one we have currently,” Bannerman tells CKNX News. “For the barn itself there is going to be some construction work and depending what [animals] we can have in the barn is going to change our requirements.”

West Perth has directed staff to look into any zoning issues the upgrades may cause.

The High Skills Major program, which is two years old, allows students to earn high school credits while learning about the agriculture sector.
