North Huron Taxes Increase Slightly

Ratepayers in North Huron will see a slight increase in their taxes this year.

Council approved the 2015 budget last night with increases to ratepayers at around 1 per-cent on average for the three wards.

What the new budget equates to is an average increase of around 13 dollars for ratepayers in Wingham, 37 dollars in Blyth, and 21 dollars in settled portions of East Wawanosh.

Differences in the increases for each ward come from higher and lower assessments for the average home. The North Huron budget sees an increase of 2.24 per cent in spending.

Reeve Neil Vincent was happy to see the numbers turn out. "I'm surprised we were able to get it as low as we did." Vincent said after Monday's council meeting. "We supply the services to so many. North Huron subsidises a number of services, especially in recreation."

The township is dealing with reductions with Municipal Partnership funding while paying off debts for past projects and looking at continuing developments.
