Significant Repairs Planned For Hanover's JDSS

The Bluewater District School Board has received $19.5-million from the province to address accommodation issues at John Diefenbaker Secondary School in Hanover.

The school has excess capacity as well as being in need of significant repairs.

Superintendent of Business Rob Cummings says the province wants school boards to make more efficient use of space, which could include consolidation with elementary schools. He says the Bluewater board is looking at a variety of options.

The school board had originally asked for $28-million. However, the board got less because of declining enrollment projections.

"One thing's for sure is the recommendation we bring to the board of trustees will certainly be looking out for the best interests of the students of Bluewater District School Board," states Cummings.
