Brockton Soccer Park Plan Moves Up Field

The Walkerton soccer complex has jumped another hurdle at Brockton council, but the location of the project is still up in the air.

At last night’s meeting, council elected to circulate tenders for the $1.2 million complex set for the East Ridge Business Park.

Officials with the complex's fundraising committee tell CKNX News they have had trouble raising money, especially when it comes to government grants, because council hasn't decided between East Ridge and the former Brant Public School for the complex's location.

“What we’re trying to do is get it so we can tell people what the project is and where it is going to go,” Brockton Soccer Fields Fundraising Committee Chair Dave Barrett told CKNX News after Monday’s meeting. “So when we’re going to corporations and upper-tier governments we can definitively say what it is.”

The committee will raise two-thirds of the project through fundraising and government grants. Brockton is expected to pay for the other third. With the $1.2 million estimate, it’s expected to cost the Municipality around $396,000.

Council expects to get bids back on the East Ridge project in about a month.

Meantime, the Bluewater District School Board will close tenders for the Brant Public school this afternoon. Brockton council is scheduled to meet shortly after that.
