Meaford Waste Diversion Third Best In The Province

Meaford's waste diversion rate is still one of the best in the province.

Mayor Barb Clumpus says both year round and seasonal residents played a role.

The waste division report for 2013 shows Meaford residents divert almost 59 per cent of waste from landfills to recycling.

That is the best rate of any community in Grey and Bruce counties and third in the province.

West Grey came second in Grey and Bruce with a waste diversion rate of 57.8 per cent. Guelph was the best in Ontario with a waste diversion score of 69.2 percent.

The waste diversion for Ontario towns and cities is just over 47 percent.

“Naturally, those who live in Meaford year-round put out more recyclables than those who live here only in summer or winter. But seasonal residents also helped us come first in 2013,” says Mayor Barb Clumpus.
