Drone Display In Clinton

International Drones Day attracted several drone enthusiasts to REACH in Clinton.

The leader of the Ontario team says one of the objectives of yesterday's event was to show and inform people about the positive uses of a drone.

Nigel Tilley says the police use drones for things like searching for lost children and he points to an experience last summer in the Exeter area.  He also explained how they've become extremely valuable for farmers in flying over and video-taping their fields so they can see where more moisture is needed or where they have too much, how their crops are doing and where their animals are.

Tilley adds the industry is still very new and the prices of drones vary considerably from around $25 to $2,500 or even as high as $8,000.

Tilley says because the industry is so new, there are no formal classes for flying drones at this time, but most people who sell them will help a new owners learns how to fly them.  And there are very few regulations around drones at this time and he says Transport Canada has been very good at waiting to see where problems might develop before imposing regulations that don't address real problems.
