Grey Bruce Hospice Expansion Gets City Support

The Residential Hospice in Grey Bruce is planning to expand and it's getting help from Owen Sound council.

The hospice has made an offer on a property on the east side of Owen Sound. The plan is to build a permanent free-standing facility.

Owen Sound council has agreed to waive development charges and other fees totalling over $100,000.

Hospice executive director Scott Lovell says it's an important contribution from the city.

"Every dollar that gets charged to our project is a dollar that we have to raise back from the community. Were not actually asking the city to lay out any cash but just to not go after the recovery of costs that they would traditionally go after with any other development project," says Lovell.

Owen Sound council also agreed to a zoning change to allow the new hospice project to proceed.

The hospice is currently sharing quarters with Seasons retirement home in Owen Sound and has the capacity to care for six patients at a time. The new hospice will increase that to ten.
