It's going to be some time yet before Owen Sounders with frozen water lines can expect relief.
Director of Operations Ken Becking says there are still about 90 homes or businesses affected. Becking says crews are working to thaw lines as quickly as possible but there's only so much they can do.
"The frost is still getting into the ground, we're still experiencing freezing temperatures so I don't think that anyone should expect that things will resolve themselves any time soon," says Becking.
People in Owen Sound who have been advised to run water taps 24/7 should continue until the city announces otherwise. People won't have to pay more for the extra water usage. They'll be billed based on historical averages.
Those with frozen lines can get water at the Bayshore Community Centre or the Recreation Centre. The Family Y is providing shower facilities.
Becking says the cost to the city for fixing the frozen water lines could run into the hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Becking says they're thawing lines based on the following priorities: 1. People who need water for medical conditions. 2. People who use water for heating their homes. 3. Businesses. 4. Everybody else.
