Huron Warden Looks For Rural Voice at ROMA

Huron County's Warden says this year's Rural Ontario Municipal Association annual conference may take on a little more significance than most annual conferences.

Paul Gowing explains this conference comes at a time when many counties, including Huron, are asking who represents rural Ontario. And they're not getting many answers.

Most Huron County councillors believed ROMA was the voice of rural Ontario but say they recently realized that that's not really the case. They're hoping for some explanation this week.

Gowing has also been asked by council to ask what the Province will to do to offset reductions of the last few years in transfer payments. Those cuts combined with the new OPP billing model are causing serious financial problems for rural municipalities this year.

The ROMA conference wraps up on Wednesday.
