The man charged with the shooting death near Clinton insists on having no legal aid for his case.
Seventy-year-old Boris Panovski appeared in person in court in Goderich this morning. He is charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder in the fatal shooting of Don Frigo and the wounding of Frigo's wife Eva Willer at the Hullett Wildlife Conservation Area near Clinton last September.
Five video appearances have yet to produce a trial date and today's appearance was an attempt to address his insistence on representing himself rather than hire a lawyer. Again through a Madeconian interpreter Panovski reiterated he did not want to waste money on a lawyer because he wasn't happy with the lawyer he had and he didn't want to use taxpayers money on legal aid.
Panovski stated he's not guilty and only wants the truth to come out and he was prepared to put his faith in God and represent himself for now.
When he was told the disclosure had been sent to the Elgin-Middlesex Detention Centre where he's being held he said he had not been given access to it but would like and interpreter to help him read it.
He was told he would have to bring an application for an interpreter to court. Court was also told this morning that the crown is not asking for a preliminary hearing but Panovsky still has that option. The case was remanded to March 12th by video with the strong recommendation from the judge that at the very least Panovsky get a lawyer's help in understanding the discovery.
