Southgate Twp Man Charged After Robbery

A Southgate Township man faces several charges after an incident earlier this week in Mount Forest.

Monday, Wellington County OPP received a report of a robbery involving a firearm that occurred on Elgin St. in Mount Forest.

An investigation has revealed two males known to each other met in a vehicle at a parking lot and one of them pointed a handgun at the other, before taking some cash and a cell phone.

Police say the vehicle used was taken without permission from the owner and the driver was prohibited from operating a motor vehicle by a court order.

Two other court orders were also being breached involving outstanding criminal charges.

With the assistance of the Guelph Police Service, an arrest was made in Guelph in the early Tuesday morning.

Police then obtained a search warrant for a residence on Southgate Rd 10 in Southgate Township and seized ammunition, stolen licence plates and suspected marijuana.

The firearm has not been located and police continue to investigate.

A 45-year-old Southgate Township man is charged with robbery with a firearm, taking a motor vehicle without consent, theft under $5,000, driving while disqualified, two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking, possession of property obtained by crime and possession of marijuana over 30 g.
