Former Bluewater Trustee Wants To Report On Meetings

A former trustee with the Bluewater District School Board wants to attend committee meetings, but board officials aren't so sure they want him there.

Kevin Larson lost re-election to the board last October, and he has asked if he can go to bylaw sub committee meetings, which he used to chair.

He says he wants to go to the open meetings as a member of the public as well as a news reporter for the Saugeen Times.

"The the public often asks, 'How do they do their business?' and I want to be able to get an update, get a sense of how quickly these bylaws are moving along and then be able to write about it," says Larson.

Board Chair Ron Motz has recommended against having Larson at the meetings. He's worried Larson will have an undue influence on the committee as a former chair, even if he doesn't participate. The issue has not been resolved.

"It was a bit of a difficult decision and I made the call on it because I want all our meetings to be open but I felt in this case it was not likely in the best interests of the board to have him attend," says Motz.
