South Bruce Peninsula council and the OPP have agreed on a new contract for policing in the municipality.
Council approved the five-year contract that will see South Bruce Peninsula pay just shy of $2.4-million for policing this year, about $20,000 less compared to 2014.
Mayor Janice Jackson says the cost is too much and she wants to see council continue to explore its options outside of the OPP.
She says they have held talks with neighbouring municipalities about policing partnerships, but cautions they have been preliminary in nature.
"I think there was some discussions with [Northern Bruce Peninsula], I think Saugeen Shores was approached. So there's options out there for sure, we just need to sit down and see who else is in a situation where they're looking to save some money through OPP costing and see if we can't partner," says Jackson.
While the new contract is five years in length, there is a provision in the agreement that allows either side to break the contract with one year notice.
