Kincardine Revisits Bruce Telecom Sale

Kincardine Councillor Laura Haight is bringing back the possible sale of Bruce Telecom for council consideration tonight.

Her motion asks that Bragg Communications determine if any options are available to mitigate issues raised by the competition bureau.

It also asks that consultants from Accelerator Strategies and TMT Equity be retained to assist the mayor in discussions with Bruce Telecom.

The municipality and Eastlink's parent company came to a purchase agreement about a year ago for $24-million, plus $3-million in cash to be retained by the municipality.

However, the Competition Bureau nixed the deal because it would eliminate any competition for wireline internet service in Paisley and Port Elgin.

A special council meeting is also planned for next Monday to discuss the issue.
