Grey Bruce Medical Officer of Health Supports Call For Living Wage

Being poor is bad for your health.

So says the Grey Bruce Medical Officer of Health, Doctor Hazel Lynn, and that's why she supports a call for a living wage for everyone.

The group Peace and Justice Grey Bruce has presented a report to Owen Sound council on the issue of precarious employment.

The report outlines the social costs of people making wages that put them below the poverty line.

Doctor Lynn says being poor is not only bad for the people involved but also a cost to society.

She wants municipal councillors council to recognize that the actions they take as elected officials will affect the health of people in their community.

Doctor Lynn says people often put housing ahead of good food.

"We are what we eat so nutrition is a big part of that so if you don't have enough money to pay both for housing and nutrition usually it's nutrition that goes."
