Source Water Protection Public Meetings Planned

The province has approved proposed Drinking Water Source Protection Plans for the Ausable Bayfield and Maitland Valley watersheds.

Source Protection Program Supervisor Jenna Allain says the policies outlined in the plan will come into effect on April 1st.

Allain explains the source protection plans were developed locally over seven years and are set to specifically address risk to lakes, rivers and underground aquifers that supply municipal drinking water systems.

Open houses will be held at REACH in Clinton on Thursday February 26th and the North Huron Westcast Community Complex in Wingham on Wednesday March 25th to answer questions. Both will run from 3:00 in the afternoon until 7:00 in the evening.

Allain adds there has been funding available to help property owners be pro-active in reducing risks on their property. Over the years more than one million dollars in stewardship funding has been administered in the Ausable Bayfield Maitland Valley region.
