24 graduate planning students from the University of Waterloo descended on Seaforth last week to work on a plan to make the town an age-friendly community.
Rachel Martin is a student planner with the Huron County Planning Department and one of the co-ordinators of the Age-friendly community project.
She explains the project started last summer when a number of the planning graduates paid their first visit to Seaforth. She says now they want to talk to more people to get a better idea of what is working, and what more can be done to make Seaforth attractive to seniors.
Martin points out that demographics clearly indicate the Huron East and Huron County both have an aging population so it makes sense to provide the services seniors want.
Martin adds the project is being watched closely at the county level to see if it can be expanded to other communities within Huron County.
