Huron County Investigating Broadband Project

A Huron County councillor thinks it could be five years before any money trickles down to help establish broadband service to isolated areas in the county.

Grey County's Information Technology Director Geoff Hogan made a presentation to county councillors about the South West Integrated Fibre Technology (SWIFT) project.

He states Huron County is ahead of the game, but maintains that SWIFT would help get broadband to everyone.

The cost for Huron County would be about $135,000 a year for the next five years, but county councillors pointed to what local providers are already doing.

As well, Councillor Bernie MacLellan wants to know if Huron County would have to wait until everyone else was brought up to speed before getting any funding.
