Huron East's Mayor Running In AMO Election

The mayor of Huron East is in the running for a position on the board of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario.

Bernie MacLellan has received the endorsement of Huron County council.

He says if Huron County is the largest agricultural producer in the province that should mean something at the provincial level. But there has been some concern at county council for a few months that that is not the case.

MacLellan is one of eight candidates for the position.

AMO representatives will interview all eight and then recommend that one be appointed to the board.

MacLellan points out it had been understood by county councillors that the Rural Ontario Municipalities of Ontario was rural Ontario's voice at AMO, but a few months ago, councillors found that anything that came from ROMA had to go to AMO before it moved on. At that point the emphasis invariably became urban rather than rural.
