The days of doctors making house calls are a thing of the past. But Grey County paramedics are hoping to change that.
Two paramedics have been reassigned and are involved in a trial to study the value of in-home healthcare by paramedics in reducing emergency room visits and hospital admissions.
Grey County Director of Paramedics Mike Muir says the paramedics will visit patients with chronic diseases like diabetes and congestive heart failure.
"Paramedics are a very mobile group and we are used to being in the community, we're used to treating patients in their homes, so it seems like a nice fit," says Muir.
The Grey County paramedics are involved in the year long trial in partnership with the Owen Sound Family Health.
The goal is to determine if the program is successful and not duplicating current services. The trial is funded with $300,000 from the province.
