Owen Sound Welcome New Medical Marijuana Plant

The City of Owen Sound is welcoming a new medical marijuana manufacturer to the city.

Toronto-based Canadian Bioceutical Corporation has announced plans to expand their line of medical marijuana and cannabis-based medical products by opening a facility in Owen Sound's industrial park.

The 155,000 sq. ft building, which is the former home to the PPG glass plant, is expected to be one of the largest of its kind in North America - housing production and packaging facilities.

Once the plant is up-and-running, officials expect it to employ up to 100 full-time employees.

“The City has always been open to new business and new ideas, and this is no exception. I welcome BCC as our newest manufacturer and a major new employer”, says Mayor Ian Boddy. “I congratulate Peter Van Dolder and the ownership group of the Peninsula Pro-Growth Business Park (former PPG building) for revitalizing the building and making it possible to attract new manufacturers like BCC.”

The PGG glass plant was closed in September of 2008.

In a release sent out Wednesday afternoon, the City says that the company plans on beginning their operation as soon as they get their license from Health Canada.
