Local Projects Get OMAFRA Funding

Communities and businesses in the region are getting some financial support from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

The money is coming from the Rural Economic Development program.

The Town of Hanover is getting $200,000 to develop a Youth Activity and Technology Centre to aid its efforts to retain youth and attract new families to rural areas. The goal is to bring together recreation, leisure, technology, arts, leadership, youth engagement, and skills development under one roof. Hanover will also get $15,000 to help support the Downtown Revitalization Streetscape Plan, laying the foundation for further investment in the town’s downtown and increasing its accessibility and functionality.

Saugeen First Nation #29 will receive up to $300,000 to repair the unique and historically important Saugeen First Nation Ampitheater.

The Paisley Events Association will receive up to $19,600 to support a festival in the summer of 2015 as part of an ongoing long-term strategy to increase tourist attractions for the town of Paisley and boost the local economy.

Scenic Holsteins Ltd. in Perth South will receive up to $146,260 to support the development of Ontario’s first on-farm, artisanal raw milk cheese processing facility. The facility will include the integration of state-of-the-art equipment and integrate the transfer of knowledge of Swiss cheese making from a qualified Swiss cheese maker to a local apprentice.

The City of Stratford will receive up to $20,000 to develop a strategic plan to grow its digital media industry.

The Municipality of Central Huron will receive up to $12,500 to create a strategic plan for the REACH in Clinton, pictured above, a premier equine event and education facility.

The RED Program has up to $4.5-million in funding per year, for three years, to help rural communities promote economic growth and develop the tools and flexibility to become stronger, more prosperous communities.

There is an application process that the parties must follow in order to be considered for a grant.
