Conestogo Wind Project Near Listowel Terminated

The Conestogo Wind Power Partnership and the Ontario Power Authority have terminated the contract for the Conestogo Wind Project.

That means 26 Wind turbines will not be built by the groups near Listowel.

Invenergy, a company that builds clean energy producers, says the sides have terminated the agreement to bring turbines to the area.

The company says they are disappointed with the news, saying they have been working since 2011 to work with the community on the project.

Perth Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece called the news a relief to the community. "“It is a victory for the Municipality of North Perth and the Township of Perth East. They deserve enormous credit for listening to their constituents and for standing with them as 'unwilling hosts'." He said.

Pettapiece added that the cancellation of the project is a victory for grassroots organizers who work tirelessly to preserve their neighbourhoods, farms, and way of life.
