South Bruce Peninsula Debates Water Services

With its water and waste water services contract set to expire, South Bruce Peninsula council is still weighing its options.

Council decided not to pursue a four-year contract for its water operations, and will instead look to negotiate a one-year agreement with Ontario Clean Water Agency before their current agreement expires on December 31.

Mayor Janice Jackson says she would like to use the one-year extension to investigate all options for water services, including bringing those services in-house, rather than contracting them to outside agencies.

A report on contract negotiations with OCWA is expected at the next council meeting on December 16.

"I don't think that we have sufficient reporting...on our alternatives. I think there's a lot of alternatives out there that's going to really reduce the cost to our consumers and we really have to go down that road and find those cost savings," says Jackson
