Recommendation That Kenilworth Public School Stay Open

The Wellington North Elementary Accommodation Review Committee has released its final report on the future status of Kenilworth Public School.

In a letter sent home to parents on Friday, Board Superintendent Brent McDonald notes the report recommends that the JK to 6 school stay open.

The report also recommends the necessary capital expenditures to bring the building up to standard and support Full Day Kindergarten and in the future Kenilworth PS be maintained to the same standards as every other school across the Upper Grand District School Board.

The school needs about $650,000 in maintenance upgrades.

Kenilworth Public School has 100 students and a 10-year projection shows that the school will operate at 88% capacity.

The ARC committee will make its presentation to a board committee meeting December 9th with board staff to make a report January 13th.

Trustees will make the final decision on February 24 at a regular board meeting.
