Norovirus Spreading In Huron County

The Huron County Health Unit is seeing an increase in stomach related illness across the region.

Residents need to stay home when sick to help stop the spread of the illness.

Public Health Inspector Roxana Nassiri says the recent illnesses are likely caused by Norovirus. It can cause sudden nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Symptoms include fever, chills, headache, tiredness and muscle aches, and can last up to 48 hours.

Norovirus spreads very easily just by touching the same surface as an infected person. Frequent hand washing and disinfecting of surfaces can help stop the spread.

“You can avoid spreading Norovirus by staying home when sick,” says Nassiri. “If your children are sick, keep them home from daycare until they have been symptom-free for 48 hours.”
