Minto Mayor Understands Bed Reduction at Carresant Care

Officials from the Town of Minto have met with representatives of Carresant Care Retirement Home in Harriston to express concern about the removal of nine beds from the facility.

The beds are going to be used in a new development in Cambridge.

Minto CAO Bill White says the company expressed a commitment to remain in Harriston and said the change will not involve a significant staff change. White told council the move was a business decision that the company feels it is necessary.

A public meeting on the bed loss will be held November 25 at 10am at the Harriston Library. Minto Mayor George Bridge says: “Over the last ten years they have only been full twice, up to the 97 per cent. It’s a business and they have to run it efficiently. And there might be some benefits that come out of it in a sense, as well.”
