Bullying Affects Work Productivity

A number of employers from Huron and Perth counties have learned more about creating healthy workplaces. A workshop in Mitchell was hosted jointly by the Huron and Perth Health Units.

Huron Public Health Promoter Annie Lukacsovics says it's difficult to measure the extent of bullying or harassment in workplaces in the two counties because it's sometimes difficult to define exactly what that is.

But she says employers that can create a culture that discourages that kind of behaviour will have a happier, healthier and more productive work place.

Lukacsovics points out there are ways individuals can deal with bullying but employers also have a responsibility to establish guidelines and policies that encourage a healthier workplace culture.

Lukacsovics adds the Huron County Health Unit offers free assistance to employers who are interested in creating a healthier workplace. She says the Health Unit has resources and can conduct workshops to help develop healthier workplaces. Interested employers can contact her at the Huron County Health Unit.
