Man Charged After Incident In Southgate

A Southgate man faces multiple charges after a break-in and assault at a residence in the Township of Southgate.

Grey County OPP got a call about 4:30 Sunday morning to a residence on Southgate Sideroad 13.

A male had entered the residence and assaulted a 22-year-old male occupant while he and other members of his family were asleep.

The victim suffered minor injuries.

After the assault the accused allegedly drank some beer, before leaving the scene in a vehicle.

While enroute to the scene, police saw the suspect vehicle travelling northbound on Grey Rd. 14 and attempted to stop it.

The vehicle continued at speeds well over the posted 80 km/hr speed limit.

Police followed the vehicle until it came to a stop in a private laneway on Southgate Rd. 22, at which time the the accused got out of the vehicle and was arrested for flight from police.

A 25-year-old faces several charges including break and enter, assault, uttering threats, flight from police and impaired driving.
