Ebola Fundraiser in Owen Sound

Musicians from across Grey and Bruce counties are planning a fundraising concert in Owen Sound Friday for Ebola doctors.

It started as a local conversation about the heroism of doctors on the front lines of the Ebola crisis in West Africa and turned into a grassroots fundraiser.

The Stone Soup Concert for West Africa will take place Friday evening in the atrium of the Public Health Building on 17th Street East in Owen Sound. All proceeds will go to Doctors Without Borders. Admission is by donation and tax receipts will be issued for donations over $20.

A list of confirmed performers is available at www.stonesoupconcert.ca.

Organizers are hoping the concert will start a broader conversation around the role Canada should play in fighting this epidemic in West Africa.

The concert name comes from the old folk tale of ‘stone soup’, in which a traveller begins a pot of soup with only a stone and encourages others to add some small, seemingly insignificant ingredients.

Eventually a large pot of nourishing soup feeds the whole village.
