The call is going out for commercial and industrial developers to come to Kincardine.
The Penetangore Regional Economic Development Corporation has announced it has been contracted to help find willing developers for a 74-acre parcel of vacant land, between Gary St. and Hwy. 21.
Vice President Bob Cottrill says they are putting the feelers out to big box corporations and any other potential commercial or light industrial developers to move the process along as quickly as they can.
He says it's more affordable land compared to elsewhere in Kincardine, because utility services were extended to include the property when the adjacent lands were developed in the 1980s. Cottrill points out the sewer system in that area was designed under the assumption the land would be developed at some point.
"When it was being developed, there was an idea to put the seniors home here and the [No Frills] mall here. The engineers at the time had the wisdom to include this piece of property in the catchment area for all the sanitary sewers," says Cottrill.
Cottrill says Kincardine is losing out on potential new residents because they're choosing places like Saugeen Shores that have already pushed ahead with "big box" developments, so developments like this are key to making Kincardine more attractive to prospective home buyers.
