UPDATE: One Dead After Georgian Bluffs Fire

There is a post-mortem scheduled for tomorrow after a deadly fire in Georgian Bluffs.

The victim is believed to be an elderly woman but a name has not been released.  A 23-year-old male, believed to be a grandson of the victim, had to be taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries when he tried to rescue the victim.

While officials say the fire started in the home, the cause of the fire is still being investigated by the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office.

One person is confirmed dead after a house fire in the Township of Georgian Bluffs.

Grey County Ontario Provincial Police say on Thursday around 5:27pm, officers responded to the blaze on 30th St. W, north of Park St.  The Inter-Township Fire Department attended and extinguished the fire.

Police say the fire is believed to have started in the lower level of the single family, split level home.

A second victim, a 23-year-old man, was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. No one else was in the home at the time of the fire.

The Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office is assisting with the ongoing investigation.

Police have not released any further details about the individual who has died as a result of the fire.

A post mortem is scheduled for Saturday, October 25, 2014 in London, Ontario.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld until such time as the post mortem examination has been completed and the identity is confirmed by the Coroner.
