Saugeen Shores Police Warning About Sexting

The police chief in Saugeen Shores is warning teens that sexting can lead to distribution of child pornography charges.

Dan Rivette is asking parents to have a discussion with their children about the dangers of the popular teen practice. He says police are investigating a growing number of cases of youth sharing naked photographs with the electronic devices.

He says young people often use a program called Snapchat that allows you to send a picture to someone that will be erased within a few seconds. However, he says all recipients have to do is take a screen shot of that picture to keep it.

There are also applications that allow the picture to be downloaded.

He says children need to know they should not send a picture of anything they don’t want to see again somewhere else.
