Man Arrested After Taking Deposit Bag Dropped in Owen Sound

Owen Sound Police have now charged a man who picked up a deposit bag that a business man unknowingly dropped.

The bag containing $3,000 was dropped while the business man was walking to the parking lot on Saturday October 11. The merchant realized what happened and called police, who reviewed video from the security system. They learned a customer who pulled into the lot, picked up the bag, and left in his vehicle.

Police were able to identify the the suspect as a 40-year-old Owen Sound man. He has been charged with theft and possession of property obtained by crime.

Police say the accused had already spent about $1,000 of the stolen money, but the rest was returned to the merchant.

The suspect is due in court November 13.
