Fran Morgan and Linda Hamill may disagree on many issues relating to education, but there’s one issue on which they agree — they are both passionate about keeping Meaford’s high school open.

Morgan and Hamill are competing for the position of Meaford-Blue Mountains trustee on the Bluewater District School Board.

During the all-candidates meeting Tuesday night at the Meaford-St. Vincent Community Centre, Hamill declared that Georgian Bay Secondary School must be kept open. She pledged that if she’s elected trustee, she will do all she can to keep the school open.

As the incumbent trustee, Morgan has served this area during the past four years. She was even more insistent.

“Close Georgian Bay Secondary School? Over my dead body!” says Morgan.

Morgan also discussed some of the alternatives to closing the high school. One of the ideas was to expand the enrolment of the school by including students in Grades 7 and 8.

Tuesday night’s all candidates meeting was run jointly by the Meaford Chamber of Commerce and the Meaford Area Citizens Association.
