Two OSCVI Teachers Honoured

Two Owen Sound teachers’ approach to teaching Canadian history have gained them national recognition.

O-S-C-V-I’s Ryan McManaman and Dave Alexander have received the Governor General’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.

McManaman and Alexander have their students research individual Canadian soldiers killed in the Second World War.

The students then submit their findings along with their personal reflections on what they’ve learned.

Alexander and McManaman say the students learn a reality of history that can’t be found in a textbook.

The teachers want to thank the community, both locally and across Canada, for helping the students with their research.

McManaman and Alexander will be presented with the Governor General’s award at a ceremony in Ottawa November 3rd.
