Bruce Power Funds Aboriginal Education Program
Bruce Power has joined an innovative educational program for local aboriginal youth.
Bruce Power is providing $41,000 in funding to help build strong long term relationships with aboriginal communities and support educational opportunities.
18 aboriginal youth are enrolled in the program at Saugeen District Secondary School.
The Aboriginal Youth Entrepreneurship Program will involve hands on activities to help students improve business math, financial literacy, accounting, marketing and social responsibility.
“This program is designed to give students the tools to go out and be successful, but it is also about hopes and dreams,” says Duncan Hawthorne, Bruce Power’s president and chief executive officer. “It is our sincere hope these students dream big and acquire the tools to make those dreams come true.”
The Bluewater District School Board and the Martin Aboriginal Education Initiative are partnering on the project.
“The Martin Aboriginal Education Initiative is very pleased to join Bruce Power in offering the Aboriginal Youth Entrepreneurship Program at Saugeen District Secondary School,” says Right Honourable Paul Martin, founder of the Martin Aboriginal Education Initiative and former prime minister of Canada.
