A Huron County OPP officer narrowly escaped injury after a driver slammed his car into a road sign barrier.

The incident happened around ten yesterday morning at the intersection of Huron Road and Benmiller Line.

OPP say police were on scene attending to a nearby collision. The officer involved was directing traffic when a car traveling westbound on Huron Road drove directly into the path of the barricade.

The officer moved out of the way just before the car hit the barricade. Police say the sign was destroyed and the car sustained minor damage.

A 91-year-old Huron East man has been charged with careless driving.
