Nuclear Waste Repository Worries Inverhuron Resident
An Inverhuron resident told a Joint Review Panel looking into plans for a Deep Geologic Repository beside Bruce Power, that there is not an example of a successful DGR anywhere in the world.
Joanne Martin made a number of points in her 30-minute presentation to the panel. She said that with 24-hour construction noise, the peaceful tourist and recreation retreat will be turned into a battle zone, with blasting for years.
She also felt house values will decrease.
But Martin said her main point is that the DGR will be located less than one mile away from the Lake Huron shoreline.
The clear disadvantage of the Bruce site compared to a conceptual Canadian Shield site is its potentially proximity to Lake Huron and the fresh water source for 40 million people.
