Engineering Study for Howson Dam in Wingham

An engineering study will be done on the Howson Dam in Wingham in an effort to restore the structure.

North Huron Council has approved the release of 15-thousand dollars to the Howson Dam Committee to hire an engineering firm.

Committee member Andy McBride says their goal is to restore the dam, so the pond can reach it’s normal operating level, which he says is approximately five feet higher than where it sits now. He hopes to get the engineering study done right away.

McBride says the Township has 214-thousand dollars in reserves for dam repairs, and they haven’t spent any money on the dam in 15 years.

About 500 community members in Wingham have expressed their support for the dam repairs, along with a number of local associations.
