Huron County council is still waiting for a response from the Rural Ontario Municipalities Association to its request that a rural lens be used in making policy decisions that impact rural Ontario.

The issue arose earlier this summer when Councillors discovered that ROMA does not provide the rural representation to the Province they thought it did. Central Huron Mayor Jim Ginn recently presented the request to ROMA.

Ginn points out the ROMA board does deal with rural Ontario issues but as one of six sub-groups under the Association of Municipalities of Ontario umbrella some of the rural issues get lost.

Ginn says so far they haven’t had much success in getting AMO on board in recognizing rural issues. Ginn adds they’re also hoping support from OMAFRA will help them get more representation at the Provincial level.
