Two tall ships kicked off Kincardine’s first Marine Heritage Festival yesterday.

The ships sailed out of the fog and into the harbour to the cheers and clapping of hundreds lining the pier. Graham Mahood, a member of the Marine Heritage Festival Committee, had a large smile on his face.

He says starting at 10am Saturday morning, the Tall Ships will be open  for tours in the harbour. The Walker House will also have lots of marine exhibits, including one specially made for the marine weekend.

Ken Rose of Hamilton was on the pier cheering with everyone else. He says small towns have a lot more to offer than big cities, and he spends most of his summers in Kincardine, as it’s a slower pace of life.
