Wellington North Wants Kenilworth P.S. To Stay Open
Wellington North CAO Michael Given has come out in favour of saving the Kenilworth Public School, rather than see it closed and the students split between Mount Forest and Arthur.
Givens sits on the accommodation review committee which is helping decide the fate of the school.
Even though the cost to keep the school open is more than closing it, Givens says the school has served the residents well and the idea of a vacant school in the township is not something Wellington North council can support.
The annual operating cost of keeping the school open is $463,000 compared to $385,000 to close it.
He says, “And we think that the Kenilworth School has obviously served a great purpose over a number of years and we don’t want to see a vacant school in our municipality. So that’s really the direction that council has provided.”
