Fire Leaves Owen Sound Family Homeless

An Owen Sound family will be out of their home for up to two months. Their housing unit on Alpha Street was badly damaged by fire yesterday afternoon.

Emergency services got a 9-1-1 call just after noon to the building. Two children, ages 13 and 10, were home when the fire started, and were able to get out safely and call 9-1-1.

Tenants from the adjoining housing units were evacuated as a precaution. It’s beleived the fire started in a toaster in the kitchen. Damage is estimated at $100,000 and will take about two months to repair.

Grey County Housing, United Way of Bruce Grey, Grey Bruce Victim Services and the Red Cross were all on scene to offer assistance to the family.
