Plans to redevelop the Port Elgin waterfront will be put on paper in the coming months.

Saugeen Shores council has hired a consulting firm to develop a design concept for the entire waterfront, following the recommendations in the waterfront master plan.

Deputy Mayor Luke Charbonneau says the waterfront master plan has been on the books for about a year now and it’s time to begin implementing the major recommendations.

He hopes there will be some portion of the waterfront redevelopment ready to go for council to include in the 2015 budget.

Director of Community Services Jayne Jagelewski says the consultant will be asked to create plans that can be implemented in phases, with the idea to spread out the financial requirements over many years.

Jagelewski adds there will be opportunities for public consultation before the final design is presented to Saugeen Shores council for approval.
She says, “We’re going to be looking at a project that will be phased in over multiple years, that’s going to be aesthetically pleasing yet usable and enjoyable for families and visitors to the port Elgin main waterfront.”
